"The Joys of the Kingdom"
Homecoming 2005
February 22-24, 2005

Dear Fellow Johnson Bible College Alumni,

I want to encourage you to join us for the 2005 Johnson Bible College Homecoming where we will celebrateThe Joys of the Kingdom. It is often unexplainable as to why we continue serving in the kingdom. Observers may seem to think it rewards service with earthly disappointments and sometimes, misery. Over the years since my time of studies at JBC I return for one Homecoming after another. Yes, I enjoy seeing familiar faces and renewing acquaintances.

In my early years as a student I would wonder, What brings these people back with such enthusiasm and loyalty? When I traveled for the college as a student I met a myriad of alumni, some in dire situations or in the midst unpleasant circumstances. As I considered my career in ministry I had to ask myself, "Why do they persist?" Is it merely staunch loyalty and commitment? For all the challenges and obstacles I observed, these alumni still seemed content and found reward for their faithful efforts.

As I took on the role of president of the Alumni Association with the responsibility of selecting a theme and planning a program for the next Homecoming, this theme came to my heart. My fellow officers and I want to create a platform that allows us to share some answers to the questions of why we do what we do. Why do we go to foreign lands or tiny communities? Why do we endure difficult leadership or why do we work for meager wages? Is it all for the hope of rising up a mega-church or changing the course of foreign policy?

The Joys of the Kingdom is going to give us the opportunity to preach about and talk in workshops about the joys we experience in kingdom service.

Our speakers for the main sessions are top-of-the-line! Our keynote speaker is Professor Mark Moore, from Ozark Christian College. He is a highly sought-after speaker for both adult and teen conferences. You will quickly sense his enthusiasm for the kingdom. Our other speakers are all JBC men: David Woods ('68), Mike Baker ('87), Mike Booher ('72) and professor Jody Owens (MA '95). These men, along with a great line up of workshop leaders, will challenge and inspire us not to lose the joys of the kingdom in the midst of troubling times or discouragement.

2004 Alumni Association President
