Background: Dr. Overdorf grew up in Knoxville, TN, and Beckley, WV. His father, Ken, began preaching in 1958 and is still going strong. Dr. Overdorf is the youngest of four children. He was baptized at the Woodlawn Christian Church in Knoxville, TN, in 1982, and was ordained into the ministry by the elders of the Oak Grove Christian Church in Beckley, WV, in 1994.
Personal Information: He was born on December 19, 1972. He married his wife Carrie in 1994. Carrie is a graduate of Purdue University and of Johnson Bible College. They have three children: Peyton (born in 2000), Tyler (born in 2003), and Claire (born in 2007).
Education: He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Preaching from Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, TN, in 1995. He received a Master of Divinity from Lincoln Christian Seminary, in May 2001, and a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 2005. His dissertation was entitled "Sermon Application: Preserving Biblical Integrity While Pursuing Contemporary Relevance."
Ministry Experience: Dr. Overdorf served for three years as the Associate Minister of Evangelism with the Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL. He then served for seven years as the Sr. Minister of Fayetteville Christian Church in Fayetteville, GA.
Teaching Experience: He teaches undergraduate and graduate Homiletics, General Epistles and Revelation, and Pastoral Ministries at Johnson Bible College. Additionally, he serves as the internship coordinator for preaching, youth ministry, and children’s ministry students.
Academic Interests and Experience: Dr. Overdorf specializes in preaching. He is a member of the Evangelical Homiletics Society.
Interests and Hobbies: Dr. Overdorf’s interests include golf, basketball, college football, and trying to keep up with three children. |
