Name: Curtis D. McClane, D.Min.

Title:  Adjunct Professor of Bible; also, Chair, Religious Studies Department at Global Christian University; Professor of Religion & Spiritual Formation

Year Started: 2004

 

Background: Dr. McClane grew up in Cartersburg, IN, a small town located between Greencastle and Indianapolis.. He has three brothers and two sisters. He was baptized in July 1969 the day before the moon walk. He attended Cloverdale Church of Christ. He graduated from Cascade High School as valedictorian.

Personal Information: He was born on January 19, 1954. He married his wife Nancy in 1973. Nancy worked as a freelance artist and professional development teacher for twenty years, but now she teaches 4th grade at Knoxville Christian School. She has been chosen two years in a row as Teacher of the Year.  He has two daughers: Sonya and her husband Erik, and Amber and her husband Kevin. Both sons-in-law work at Howard Scripps. Sonya is an RN at UT Medical. Amber works at Volunteer Chiropractic and is completing her education degree at UT Knoxville.
 
Education:  He graduated  with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Preaching from Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN, in 1977. He received a Master of Divinity from Harding University Graduate School of Religion in Memphis, TN, in May 1988. He received a D.Min. from Drew University Theological School  Madison, NJ, in 1992. His dissertation was entitled Moving Toward Involvement: Jesus’ Ministry Pronouncement at Nazareth as a Paradigm for Community Outreach. In January of 2008 he was accepted into Oxford Graduate School to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy degree. He is pursuing work toward his dissertation entitled The Kairotic and Kenotic Aspects of Spiritual Leadership: Toward a Theodicy of  Formational Mentoring.

Ministry Experience:  He has thirty-four  years of experience in the ministry as a senior minister, youth minister, and church planter in Indiana, Tennessee, and Michigan..  His current ministry is with the Highland View Church of Christ in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Teaching Experience: He began teaching as Adjunct Professor of New Testament at Great Lakes Christian College in Lansing, MI, from 1990 to 1998. From 1998 to 2003, he taught at Rochester College in Rochester, MI. From 2004-2008 he has taught at Johnson Bible College as adjunct instructor in the undergraduate division. He teaches in the LAMP program as well as one course in the Masters of Ministry program. Additionally, he is Chair of the Religious Studies Department at Global Christian University; Professor of Religion & Spiritual Formation, 2003-2008.

Academic Interests and Experience: His specialties are Formative Theology and Spirituality, The General Epistles, and Models of Leadership in the New Testament. He is a member of the Society for the Study of Spirituality. For five years he was editor-in-chief of Integrity journal. He was recently guest editor of Leaven, a ministry journal published by Pepperdine University. The theme was on “Spirituality.”

He is currently contributor and reading editor of the new ChurchLink Online Magazine to be launched by Johnson Bible College. He recently made a presentation at Faulkner University, “The Soul of the Academy: Current Formational Practices of Christian College/University Leaders.”It is being considered for publication by Faulkner University in their new journal Faith and the Academy.

Interests and Hobbies: Dr. McClane’s interests include building a dulcimer and playing mountain music,  classical music, classic movies, birdwatching and building bluebird nesting boxes, woodworking & building gazebos, hiking in the Smokies, bicycling, writing and journaling, colonial history, and Civil War history.
