The Importance of Community
A nurturing community has always played an important role in our educational
philosophy. Ashley Johnson established the College as a community where
students, faculty, and staff study, work, worship, and live together.
Perhaps there is no better occasion to experience the benefits of this shared
life than at meal time. It is over the dinner table that what happens in the
classroom and residence halls becomes integrated into the lives of students.
More than just a place to eat, the Gally Commons will provide a facility and
atmosphere where community is experienced and life is enriched.
Meeting a Critical Need
Dining Hall. As our student body has grown during the past ten years, there has
been an increasing need for a new dining facility. The new Gally Commons will
provide much needed space for seating and food preparation. The 22,389 square
feet ground floor will include the general dining hall and private dining rooms
with a seating capacity of 640, as well as an upgraded commercial kitchen and
serving stations.
Post Office and Bookstore. Enrollment growth has also stretched the capacity
of our post office and bookstore. In seeking to be good stewards by maximizing
the usefulness of this building, a new post office and bookstore will be located on
the 10,080 square feet second floor.
While the Gally Trust is providing substantial funding for this building, it will not
cover the full $7 million cost. So, the Above Every Other Desire Campaign is
targeting $2 million for Gally Commons.
Donald and Mary Gally were JBC honorary alumni who provided generous assistance
to many students. Mr. Gally was a successful investment advisor. Both he and
Mrs. Gally believed that their wealth came from the Lord and they should give back
to His Kingdom.
