| Well into its 2nd century of service, Johnson Bible College is experiencing some of the most dramatic growth in the College’s history. What factors have helped JBC set new records in growth and service?
Focused Mission For over 100 years, Johnson Bible College has remained focused on its mission of preparing students for specialized Christian ministries with special emphasis on preaching. Every student at Johnson Bible College majors in Bible. From preaching and youth ministry to family counseling and teacher education, every degree program is rooted in ministry.
Academic Excellence
The quality of education at Johnson Bible College is tied to our passion for Christian ministry and the belief that within this culture a quality education is essential for effective ministry. In order to assure the quality of its programs, Johnson is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. Inquiries to the Commission should relate only to the accreditation status of the institution. In addition, JBC is accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education (5575 South
Semoran Boulevard, Suite 26, Orlando, FL 32822-1781, Phone: 407-207-0808), and the Teacher Education Program is accredited by the Tennessee State Board of Education.
Affordable Cost Ashley Johnson’s vision was to insure that limited financial resources would not prevent students committed to ministry from receiving a quality education. This emphasis on keeping education affordable continues today through:
- Low Charges. Johnson Bible College is the least expensive private college in Tennessee. Charges for the upcoming school year are available in the Prospective Students section under Financial Information.
|
- Work Study. An extensive work study program provides work on campus for students who want to help earn their education.
|
- Scholarships. Last year, over $1 million in scholarships were awarded to needy and deserving students. These scholarships are in addition to Pell Grants and student loans.

Family Atmosphere In our fast-paced disconnected society, students are looking for a place to belong and develop. Johnson is a community of faith where most of the faculty and staff live on campus. This arrangement provides a unique atmosphere where faith and love are not only taught but also demonstrated. Chapel services, small groups, dorm devotions, and community outreach help encourage growth in Christ. This family environment is in keeping with JBC’s commitment to help students develop in every area of their lives.
Beautiful Campus JBC’s 175 acre campus is located in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains overlooking the French Broad river. It is no exaggeration to say it is one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation. The natural beauty combined with the colonial architecture of the Colleges modern facilities make for a wonderful setting in which to live and study.
Technology JBC is a recognized leader in technology. Students have direct access to the campus network in their dormitory rooms. Two computer labs are available with the latest hardware and software. Professors use a variety of technologies to enhance their presentations and facilitate communication with students.
Remarkable Stability
Johnson Bible College is known for its leadership and wise management of resources. Since 1893, there have only been six presidents: Ashley Johnson, Emma Johnson, Alva Ross Brown, Robert Bell, David Eubanks, and Gary Weedman.
A Host of Loyal Alumni and Friends The Johnson Bible College “family” goes far beyond faculty and students. JBC is known for the quality and loyalty of alumni serving across the nation and around the world. The JBC family also extends to the host of friends throughout the country who desire to help reach the lost by preparing students to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Without this solid base of faithful support, the ministry of Johnson Bible College could not continue to grow and flourish. Since 2000 giving for capital expansion projects has more than doubled to over $2 million a year as alumni and friends have rallied around the five year $15 million Build Up the Walls – Stand in the Gap! Campaign.
