M.A. in New Testament

Admission Requirements

  • The applicant must be a professing Christian who is committed to specialized Christian service or who has a serious purpose to profit from a graduate education.

  • The applicant should have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college with GPA of 2.50 or better (or 3.00 during the senior year) on a 4.00 scale.

  • The applicant must satisfy 27 hours of Bible prerequisites or complete six hours of graduate Bible Survey Courses.

  • The applicant must complete the application form and submit letters of reference (reference letters not required of continuous JBC students).

  • Language Requirement: The applicant must either 1) demonstrate familiarity with New Testament Greek by showing evidence of having six semester hours (or equivalent) college or seminary credit in the language, or 2) take PRMN 5701, Using Greek Reference Works, in addition to the other thirty hours required for the degree.

For the Preaching Track

  • The applicant should have completed six semester hours of homiletics or the equivalent, including an introduction to inductive preaching or complete PRMN 5011 - Basic Expository Preaching.

  • The applicant must submit a sermon on audio tape with the application form.

For the Research Track

  • The student must demonstrate proficiency in translating and exegeting New Testament Greek texts, either by 1) showing evidence of having twelve semester hours' (or equivalent) college or seminary credit in Hellenistic Greek, or 2) passing a proficiency test administered by the college.

For the Contract Track

  • The student must have a background in the contract area judged to be adequate by the faculty.

  • The student may be required to demonstrate proficiency in one other language if, in the judgment of the faculty, knowledge of that language is necessary for scholarly study in the student's area of interest.
