A Word From President Gary Weedman

If you have read this far in the Catalog, you're more than a casual reader; you're surely trying to see if this College is the right one for you or for someone in your family.

It is, of course, an important issue. The choice of a college, for most people, sets the course of their lives for years to come.

So, as you consider Johnson as your choice, remember:

  • Our purpose is to prepare men and women for leadership in some avenue of Christian service. Elsewhere in the Catalog you can find those specific vocational choices. They include preaching, youth ministry, teacher education, media, music, counseling, missions, and several other vocations as well.
  • A unique part of our ethos is that we live in community: faculty, many staff, administrators, and most students live on campus. We believe that developing character in community is an essential part of preparing to be leaders.
  • We work at keeping the cost of our education low. We work to accommodate students with various financial resources.
  • The Bible forms the foundation of all our academic programs. We believe that a truly educated leader must have knowledge of the text of the Scriptures to be a Christian leader in the twenty-first century
  • We have a strong general education program at the core of what we do. Because we are called a "Bible" college does not mean that we study only that book. We also include the study of the arts, humanities, and sciences just like your friends who attend public universities.
  • We have a most modern, up-to-date campus including residence halls, dining facilities, high-tech classrooms, computing, and media access.
  • We value our heritage from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (we're the second oldest Bible college in the United States and the oldest associated with the Christian churches and churches of Christ), but our vision is for the twenty-first century.

We hope that what we are and what we have is what you want in a college.
