Johnson Bible College is located on 350 acres nestled in the rolling foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The College is far enough from downtown Knoxville to avoid city distractions and yet close enough to receive the social and cultural benefits that a university city of 361,000 population offers. Adjacent to the French Broad River, the campus with its stately colonial buildings provides a picturesque, serene environment for learning.
Students from approximately forty states (most travel 300-500 miles from home) and several foreign countries provide a rich mixture for diverse social and cultural exchanges. Most of the faculty, students and staff live on campus, creating a unique family atmosphere.
Campus life is busy and rewarding. Classes meet Tuesday through Friday, and these days are full. Most classes convene for one hour and fifteen minutes on Tuesday and Thursday or on Wednesday and Friday. Students attend chapel three mornings and one evening each week. Students may attend local churches on Wednesdays instead of the College chapel. Saturdays, Mondays, and evenings are for work, study, and recreation. Students are encouraged to make Sunday a day of worship, rest, and service.
The College has expectations for students with respect to class and chapel attendance, dress, and behavior that go beyond that of most institutions of higher education. These are described in detail in the Johnson Bible College Student Handbook, which every prospective student should read. These expectations are considered appropriate for students preparing for Christian vocations, and most students do not find them burdensome.
Academic life is demanding at Johnson. This emphasis on academic rigor is consistent with spirituality and preparation for ministry. Indeed, students demonstrate their spiritual growth and leadership potential by the way they approach the academic life. Not everyone is expected to be an "A" student, but all students must study hard to get along well here.
The activities and services of the College as described below are intended to enhance student life and to promote the spiritual, intellectual, physical, professional, and social development of the students.
