Guidelines for Essay and Letters
Application Essay
The application essay is a very important aspect of the HP admission process. In this essay, students have an opportunity to introduce themselves to the admission committee. Applicants should type the essay very carefully and use proper form and style. In terms of content, these essays should concentrate on students'; academic accomplishments but include reference to leadership experiences and goals for ministry.
The essays should include details about the applicants' favorite subjects, reading interests, hobbies, jobs, travel, and extracurricular activities. Essays should identify ambitions and long-term goals, explaining how they relate to higher education, and tell why the Honors Program holds an appeal for applicants. These application essays should be approximately 750 words long.
The deadline for this essay is the Saturday before the fall semester's opening week.
Reference Letters
Incoming freshmen should submit one letter from a minister and two letters from high school teachers or administrators. People who write these recommendation letters should know the applicants fairly well and be especially acquainted with their academic background, abilities, and interests. In other words, the letter writers should be familiar with students' personal and academic history -- as described by the students in their application essays -- and they should understand the nature and purpose of the JBC Honors Program.
The absolute deadline for these letters is the Saturday before the fall semester's opening week.
