(= three courses/9 hours to omit)
All students accepted into the Honors Program can omit these three courses:
Introduction to Composition (3 hours);
Introduction to Literature (3 hours); and
Introduction to Christian Ministry (3 hours).
- Special HP Curriculum
(= five exclusive HP courses/15 hours to add)
In addition to all of the required courses in Bible, General Education, and Specialty (or double major) areas (except the three courses listed in Part I), all Honors Program participants must take five special courses, identified in A, B, C, and D, below:
- Everyone takes two of these three courses (offered every spring semester, on a 3-year cycle):
Archaeology & the Bible (3 hours), G. Mattingly;
Science & the Bible (3 hours), G. Mattingly; and
History of the Bible (3 hours), G. Mattingly.
- Everyone takes Advanced Writing (3 hours), R. Wheeler (offered every fall semester).
- Everyone takes Spiritual Formation (3 hours), J. Owens (offered periodically).
- Everyone does a Senior Project (3 hours), a special research, writing, and/or field project that is planned and conducted under the supervision of a JBC professor, according to published guidelines (available every semester, as needed).
- Friday HP Chapel
(= three semesters of Friday HP Chapel)
Along with five special Honors Program courses (listed in Part II), participants in the HP must enroll and participate in at least three semesters of Friday HP Chapel to fulfill their normal Friday chapel requirement.
- Off-Campus HP Events
(= three special HP events each year)
In addition to the five special Honors Program courses (listed in Part II) and the three semesters of Friday HP Chapel (described in Part III), all participants in the Honors Program must attend three special HP events each academic year, distributed over the two semesters.
