  Leigh Hargrave ('45) and his wife Mary celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on November 28, 2006. The Hargraves were married on Thanksgiving Day in 1946, then served together in church planting and church building ministries in Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, California, Kentucky, Alabama, and Florida for over 55 years. Leigh and Mary currently live and work in Bristol, TN, and would love to hear from classmates and friends (120 W. Cedar, Bristol, TN 37620). (10-18-06)

Deaths:
  Jacob Lane Nichols, the 5 month old grandson of Linda (Balding, '75) Nichols, died in the Pediatric ICU of Children's Hospital in Columbus, OH, just after midnight on November 15, 2006. Baby Lane had just undergone a third open heart surgery since his birth last May, to correct a heart defect. His parents are Linda's son, Jake Nichols and his wife, Jatina. (11-22-06)

  Debbie Brusman ('76) graduated in January 2007 with her M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Azusa Pacific University in California. She has lived and worked in Hong Kong since 1996. (4-10-07)

  Rebecca (Albaugh, '82) Hale has been called to serve as the Interim Regional Minister for the Northwest Region for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) beginning in December 2006. For the past 5 years Rebecca has served as Associate Regional Minister with the Christian Church in Tennessee [Disciples of Christ]. (11-1-06)
  Terry Plowman ('83) was ordained into the ministry on November 5, 2006, in Douglasville, Georgia, and has become the minister of the Jackson Christian Church in Jackson, Georgia. (12-15-06)
  Ken ('83) and Judy (Badgett, '84) Baker moved to Saginaw Michigan on February 15, 2007.  Ken is the Senior Minister of the Saginaw Bay Church of Christ. (2-15-07)
  Randy Matney ('84) is currently serving as Interim VP of Finance at Roanoke Bible College in Elizabeth City, NC. He has also completed 5 months at Atlanta Christian College assisting the Business Office.
Laura Matney ('86) has just moved to a new positon in Coordinated School Health for the Johnson City Schools. (12-20-06)
  Tim ('87) and Marilyn ('98) Sipes moved from Bangor, MI to Cockeysville, MD in August 06, to help plant a new congregation. Their sons Gabe and Jared are still residing in Michigan. (4-9-07)

  James David and A. Kirsten (De Fries, '86) Boatright of Nikiski, Alaska, would like to announce the birth of their son, Nathanael David, on the 26th of February (2007). He joins his helpful, happy siblings John, Daniel, Matthea and Michael. (2-26-07)
  Jim and Karen (Wilhoit, '88) Bettison welcomed daughter Aisha Mishel (age 4) home March 30th from Guatemala, where she was recently adopted. Aisha joins siblings Katie (11), Joshua (9) and Gabriel (2).
  Nolan David was born August 1 to Kelly and David Lee ('88). To this point, Nolan can speak three languages, play improvisational jazz piano and make a free throw -- all skills which have thus far eluded his father. (9-4-07)

  Jess O. Hale Jr. ('80) recently had an article titled "Cousins Near and Far: The Relationship of JBC to the Disciples of Christ and the Churches of Christ" published in the Tennesee Historical Quarterly. Jess is a senior legislative attorney for the Tennessee General Assembly. (8-17-07)

  Steve ('87) and Beverly (Pleasant, '87) Cook recently celebrated Twenty years of ministry with the Jefferson Church of Christ in Rural Hall, NC on June 7, 2007. Steve has served as Associate Minister of Youth, Music & Christian Education and currently serves as Worship Minister. The Cooks have two daughters: Emilee (18), who is headed to JBC this fall, and Jenna (15). (6-11-07)
  Lynette Horton (A.S., '87)received National Board Certification recently. This is the highest honor a teacher can receive. She is one of only 232 teachers in the state of Tennessee to receive this recognition. (8-27-07)
  In November, David Lee ('88) celebrated 15 years of ministry with the Clear Creek Christian Church in Bloomington, Indiana. He recently transitioned from Student Ministry to Discipleship/Ministry Development. David serves alongside Glenn Hughes ('87) & Carolyn (Smith, '86) McGowen. (12-13-06)

  Joseph La Rue (’91) has joined the GH&R Law Firm's Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department of Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned his J.D. in 2006 from the University of Notre Dame Law School. There he served as an article editor on the Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics & Public Policy, and was also a member of the Christian Legal Society and the Federalist Society. He previously served as a minister in Indiana and Illinois. (12-15-06)
  Scott (‘95) and Jonna (Ray, ‘95) DeWitt have just completed their first year in full time missions work with Casas por Cristo in Juarez, Mexico, after 12 years in youth ministry in Illinois. (7-15-07)
  Greg Robbins ('95) is the new preaching minister at the Heath Church of Christ (Heath, Ohio). Joining him in this new ministry is his wife, Traci (Canfield, '96) and their two daughters Holly and Shelby. (8-27-07)
  Derrick Lewis ('96) has completed a 10 year ministry with River of Life Christian Church in LaGrange, GA and has accepted the position of general manager and lecturer at the Explorations in Antiquity Center in LaGrange, GA. The Explorations in Antiquity Center is a teaching museum focused on teaching the Bible in its cultural context through lectures, Biblical meals, archaeological replicas and research. (1-15-08)
  Stephen ('96) and Becki (Bullock-Butler,'96) Lowe have been called to direct Camp Christian in Burns, Tennessee. Stephen was the minister at River Hill Church of Christ for the past 3 1/2 years in Monongahela, Pennsylvania. (2-4-07)
  John Palmer ('00) and Tina (Bayne, '98) Gregg will be moving to Louisville, KY to serve with the International Services staff at Team Expansion. John currently works as a photojournalist in Staunton, VA and Tina worked as a counselor until leaving her position in order to raise full-time missionary support. (6-11-07)
  Shane Rayford ('98) recently accepted a Steering Level Management position with IKEA. He leaves a six year career with Starbucks Coffee Company, where he served as a District Manager in the Cincinnati area. He and his wife, Dawn (Molesky, 98,99) reside in Mason, Ohio. (9-4-07)

  Justin M. ('96) and Rhonda Miller welcomed Bradley Dakota (Koty) on Thursday, November 9th, 2006 at 2:41pm. Koty weighed in at 8 lbs 6 oz. He has one big brother, Mak. (11-28-06)
  Zoe Elizabeth Marx was born to Dr. Tracy W. ('96) and Angela (Griffith '97) Marx on November 1, 2006. She was welcomed home by brothers Reagan (6 yrs.) and Patrick (3 yrs.).   On July 4, 2007, Jessica Coy ('99) married SFC Kevin Johnson (U.S. Army) in Bristow, Virginia.  They are stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, but will soon be on the move again.  They ask for your prayers during these times of transition and separation. (9-12-07)

  Paul Trumpore ('93) received the Fire Chaplains Founder's Award on Wednesday, October 25, 2006. This award is given for exemplary service given to the Emergency Services of Tennessee and the Chaplin Service Nationwide. (10-26-06)
  Matt Thompson ('04) and his wife Angel just celebrated their 1st anniversary of their church plant New Hope Community Church in Wooster, Ohio and are getting ready to move into their new facilities by Easter '08. We are moving into a 15000 sq. ft building that was given to them by another church in town that believes in their mission and vission. An amazing God miracle. (10-27-07)
  Mark (’94) and Peggy (Jordan, ‘96) Tucker celebrated 11 years of marriage on May 20, 2006. Mark is happy to be in his fifth year of youth ministry with Garden Park Christian Church, Toledo, Ohio. Peggy is a clinician with Harbor Behavioral Healthcare. (12-15-06)
  Dawn Carney ('95) recently took a position as an employment consultant for Hope Haven Development Center in Burlington Iowa. Hope Haven is an organization that assists persons with disabilities to live a life of opportunity and well being. (10-18-06)

  After completing a five-year youth ministr at University Church of Christ in Greenville, North Carolina, Matt Smith ('02) has accepted the call to serve as the youth minister at Oak Grove Christian Church in Beckley, West Virginia. He and his wife, Heather (Braziel, '02) Smith moved to Beckley in May of 2007. Heather is the Administrative Assistant for RCCAA Head Start in Beckley. (1-24-08)
  Jared Holland ('05) recently concluded his work with Citadel Broadcasting, Knoxville and WIVK Radio to accept a new position at Clear Channel Charlottesville as Music Director and Afternoon Drive personality at WCYK 99.7 FM. (11-6-06)

  Christina Patterson ('06) recently completed a year-long ESL teaching position in Japan and has moved to Johnson City, Tennessee. She has entered Emmanuel School of Religion to begin work on an M.Div. (8-1-07)
  Steve Van Horn ('06) was recently hired as the Assistant Children’s Ministry Pastor at Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. (4-10-07)
  On October 8th, 2006, Jim Rot ('07) was ordained as Associate Pastor/Director of Children's Ministries of His Way Christian Fellowship in Fitchburg Wisconsin. His Way is a discipleship based church plant in a suburb of Madison Wisconsin. (1-3-07)

  Troy Borst ('00) recently earned his M.Div. degree from Asbury Theological Seminary and began a new ministry with New Beginnings Christian Church in Tampa, Florida. (2-15-07)
  Micah Bumby (’07) was one of 14 students from Christian colleges throughout the United States and Canada who were recipients of the 2007 Standard Publishing Award for Outstanding Promise in Christian Education. Criteria included academic excellence and proved aptitude in Christian education, Christian character, and passion for education in the church. (7-15-07)
