Christian Periodical Index

            Format: Print & Internet (1976)

            Coverage: 1966 - Present

Description: Indexes around 120 Evangelical Christian periodicals. Titles are chosen for their value to students training for Christian ministry.  It also contains book reviews.

 

Education Index Full-Text

Format: Internet

Coverage: 1980-

Description: Thorough indexing of over 750 education periodicals with 350 available in full-text.  It is available over the internet on the JBC campus network. It is a Wilson Web product.

 

ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center)

            Format: Internet               

Coverage: 1966 to present

Description: Educational Resources Information Center has represented the most complete bibliography of educational materials available since 1966. The ERIC database is a guide to published and unpublished sources on thousands of educational topics, with information from RIE (Resources in Education) and CIJE (Current Index to Journals in Education). CIJE covers over 1,000 journals.

 

Family & Society Studies Worldwide

            Format: CD-ROM

Coverage: 1970 - Present

Description: Provides comprehensive information in the fields of Family Science, Human Ecology and Human Development. This database provides abstracts and bibliographical records drawn from journals, books, periodical literature, conferences & government reports.

 

FirstSearch

            Format: Internet

            Coverage: Varies with individual database

Description: FirstSearch is a collection of over 40 different databases on most every subject.

 

Humanities Index

Format: Print

Coverage: 1987-present

Description:  A cumulative index which analyzes 347 titles.  Subject fields include archaeology, classical studies, folklore, history, language, literature, performing arts, philosophy, religion and theology, and related topics.  Author and subject entries are interfiled.  Citations to book reviews follow.  This index is received on an intermittent basis and may not be complete.

 

New Testament Abstracts

Format: Print

Coverage: 1957-present

Description:  Index includes interpretation, textual studies, individual books, biblical theology, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Jewish background, and the early church.  Arrangement within each issue is by category with indexes to authors and principal scriptural texts in the final issue of each volume.  Book reviews are included.

 

Old Testament Abstracts

Format: Print

Coverage: 1978-present

Description:  Index covers books and over 250 periodicals internationally.  It is arranged first by type of publication then by broad subject category; including, archaeology, philology, history, and biblical theology.  It also includes intertestamental period and Apocrypha.  It indexes by author, scripture text and Semitic word.

 

Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature

Format: Print

Coverage: 1916-present, missing some early years

Description: Indexes 200 periodicals.  Author and subject citations are interfiled in one alphabet.  An author index of citations to book reviews follows the main body of the index.  Indexing may be current within 4 months.  Reader's Guide is mostly used to find general subject matter.

 

Religion Database with ATLAS                                                                        

            Format: Internet

            Coverage: 1949- Present

Description: Religion Database is the most comprehensive English language index to religious periodical literature. It covers all area of religious studies and is not restricted to any particular viewpoint. This database also includes ATLAS, which is a full-text database of over 80 of the leading theology & religion journals. It contains citations to articles, books, essays and book reviews. It consists of scanned images of theses journals. It is available over the internet on the JBC campus network and to Distance Learning Students. 

 

Religious and Theological Abstracts

Format: Print

Coverage: 1980-present

Description:  RTA covers contents of over 200 religious periodicals, with over 3000 abstracts annually.  Arranged in four categories:  biblical, theological, historical, and practical.  Coverage is international with all abstracts in English.  Predominant viewpoint is Christian, some space given to Judaism, but relatively little to other religions.  Subject and author indexes included.  Scripture indexes are located in issue #4 of each volume.

 


Restoration Serials Index

            Format: Internet

            Coverage: 1940-

Description: The Restoration Serials Index is an index of articles from 72 journals, magazines and other periodicals related to the Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement.

 

Sage Family Studies Abstracts

            Format: Print

Coverage: 1979 - Present

Description: Each quarterly publication provides abstracts to around 250 articles, books and government publications. Entries are grouped by broad topics (i.e. “Gender roles”, “life cycles”, “theory and method”). Author and subject indexes are provided.

 

Social Science Index

Format: Print

Coverage: 1983-present

Description:  Multidisciplinary index of 355 periodicals without abstracts.  Covers major journals from most social and behavioral sciences.  Also covers social welfare journals, and has an index to reviews of social science books.  Received on an intermittent basis and may not be complete.

 

Tennessee Electronic Library

            Format: Internet

            Coverage: Varies with individual database

Description: Collection of twenty-one databases provided by the Tennessee Department of State, State Library and Archives. Overall more than 1,000 periodicals are included. They use the Infotrac search interface and many articles are either abstracted or have the full-text provided. Most useful are InfoTrac Religion & Philosophy, Expanded Academic ASAP, which accesses scholarly journal across all academic disciplines and Professional Collection, an education resource.
